Privacy Policy

What personal information Deedwell collects, why, who it is shared with, and how you can see or correct it.

1. Who we are

This policy explains how Deedwell (“Deedwell”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information collected through www.deedwell.com.au and related services (the “Platform”).

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

2. What we collect

Account holdersName, email address, password (stored in hashed form), account type and, if you add it, a phone number. We also keep sign-in security records such as one-time codes and trusted devices.
ListersProperty addresses, map locations, descriptions, photos and videos; the name and phone number shown on your listings; and your payment provider account identifier and whether it can accept payments. Your identity and bank details for payouts are collected by the payment provider directly. We do not see or store them.
Guests and enquirersName, email address, phone number if you give it, booking dates, guest numbers and the messages you send to listers.
People who pay through the PlatformCard details are collected and stored by our payment provider, not by us. We receive a payment reference, the amount and the payment status.
People who contact usYour name, email address and the content of your message.
Website visitorsThe pages you visit on the Platform and when, the website that referred you, an anonymous browser identifier, IP address, device and browser type, and error diagnostics, collected through cookies and server logs. If you are signed in, page visits are linked to your account. We use IP addresses to limit spam and abuse.

We do not set out to collect sensitive information, such as health information or racial or ethnic origin. Please do not include it in listings or messages.

3. How we collect it

We collect information directly from you when you create an account, publish a listing, make an enquiry or booking, or contact us. We also receive information from our payment provider about payments and account status, and automatically from your device when you use the Platform.

You can browse listings without an account. To list a property, enquire or book we need your contact details, because we cannot provide those services anonymously.

4. Why we collect and use it

We use personal information to:

  • create and manage accounts and verify identity or authority to list;
  • publish listings and connect Users with Listers;
  • process bookings and payments through our payment provider;
  • send service messages such as booking confirmations and security codes;
  • provide support and handle complaints;
  • detect and prevent fraud, misuse and unlawful listings;
  • meet legal obligations, including tax reporting; and
  • improve the Platform and, with your consent, send marketing.

5. Who we share it with

RecipientWhat and why
The publicListings are public. They show the Lister's name and, where provided, phone number, along with the property details, photos and location.
Listers and GuestsA Lister receives the name, contact details and message of a person who enquires, and the booking details of a Guest who books. A Guest receives the details needed for their stay.
Payment provider (Stripe)Payment and booking information, to process payments and pay Listers.
Technology providersWebsite hosting (Vercel), database hosting (Neon), image and video storage (Cloudflare), email delivery (Resend) and error monitoring (Sentry) process information on our behalf.
Map providersWhen a map loads, the map provider (Google Maps, OpenStreetMap or Esri) receives your IP address and the area being viewed. Addresses entered on a listing are sent to OpenStreetMap to find their map position.
Australian Taxation OfficeLister identity details and transaction totals, where required by the Sharing Economy Reporting Regime.
State and territory authoritiesInformation required by law, such as short-stay registration or levy information.
Professional advisers and insurersWhere needed to obtain advice or manage a claim.
Law enforcement, courts and regulatorsWhere the law requires or authorises it.
A buyer of our businessIf the Platform is sold or restructured, subject to this policy continuing to apply.

We do not sell personal information.

6. Overseas disclosure

Some of our technology and payment providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure they protect it in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

7. Marketing

We send marketing emails or messages only if you have agreed or the law otherwise allows it. Every marketing message identifies us and includes a way to unsubscribe. Service messages about your account, listings and bookings are not marketing and will still be sent.

8. Cookies

We use cookies that are needed to keep you signed in, to keep the Platform secure, to remember the homes you like or save if you are not signed in, and to count visits to our pages. Visit statistics are kept in our own systems and are not shared with advertising or analytics companies. We do not use advertising cookies. Embedded maps are provided by third parties, which may set their own cookies.

You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the Platform may not work.

9. Security

We protect personal information with measures including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, sign-in codes and access controls. No system is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.

10. How long we keep it

We keep personal information for as long as your account is open and for as long afterwards as we need it for legal, tax and dispute purposes. Transaction and tax records are generally kept for seven years. We then delete or de-identify the information.

11. Access and correction

You may ask us for access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting us through the contact page at www.deedwell.com.au/contact. We will respond within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why.

You may ask us to close your account and delete your information. We will do so except where we must keep it by law.

12. Complaints and contact

To make a privacy complaint, contact us through the contact page at www.deedwell.com.au/contact. We will acknowledge it within 5 business days and respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

We may update this policy. The current version is always on the Platform, and we will tell you about material changes.
